The PHL’s newest franchise was revealed today on the PHL’s instagram account (@phlbasketball). Matthew Stone’s expansion team, which was announced back on June 16th, finally has a face: the Colorado Crushers. The team has officially joined Fort Lauderdale, Howell, & Seattle for the PHL IV season. As the first non-coastal location to be represented in the Penthouse League, the Centennial State now has their own PHL franchise to root for.
Stone will be the smallest player in the League for PHL IV so we’ll have to see if he’s able to climb the hill that former Boston Bartender, Mikey Karapetian, wasn’t able to conquer. Karapetian went 2-6 (both wins by forfeit) in the regular season and 0-2 in the playoffs in his only PHL campaign (PHL II). Based on reporting from Tommy Rossettini, Stone will have anywhere from six to ten regular season opportunities to pick up a win in his first season.
The Crushers logo is a hand holding and ‘crush’ing a basketball. The basketball is orange (slightly darker than Howell Hammers orange) and the hand is sky blue with silver nails. The fingers are topped with mountain peaks, representing the high country of the Rocky Mountains, and are topped with white snow. The entire logo is outlined in black. Sources say that the team’s melody will consist of the Belgian national anthem prior to home games, Ozzy Osbourne’s Crazy Train to warm-up to, & Queen’s We Are the Champions following victories. The Crushers will open their PHL journey at home although the date and opponent are currently unknown.
